Czechia Might Be Europe's Most Underrated Golf Destination

When people think about European golf holidays, the usual suspects immediately spring to mind. Scotland. Ireland. Portugal. Spain.
They're iconic for a reason. They've built decades-long reputations, boast incredible courses, and sit firmly on the bucket lists of golfers across the world, but after spending a week filming our television programme Tee Time Czechia, we've come home asking ourselves one simple question... 'Why isn't everyone talking about Czechia?'
Before this trip, we'd heard snippets. We'd seen the odd photograph. We'd spoken to a few people in the industry who told us there was something special happening there. What we weren't expecting was to leave believing Czechia is genuinely one of Europe's hidden golfing gems.
One of the joys of filming Tee Time is arriving somewhere with an open mind. Every destination has its own identity.
Some lean heavily into history, others into luxury, while some rely almost entirely on the quality of the golf. Czechia manages to combine all three. From the moment we arrived, it became clear that this wasn't simply another golf trip. It felt like discovering somewhere that has quietly been developing into a world-class golfing destination while much of Europe has been looking toward the usual suspects of Spain, Portugal etc.
It's a country filled with beautiful landscapes, incredible architecture, welcoming people and, perhaps most surprisingly, an exceptional collection of golf courses. Each day seemed to raise the bar a little higher.
One of the biggest surprises throughout the trip wasn't just the quality of the golf. It was how quiet the courses were. Many of Europe's established golf destinations are fantastic, but they're also incredibly busy. Tee sheets are packed, resorts are bustling, and during peak season it's easy to feel like you're part of a conveyor belt of golf tourists.
Czechia felt different. Rounds flowed naturally. The pace was relaxed. Golf is still very much a growing sport in Czechia, there are less than 100,000 registered golfers in the country with just over 100 golf courses. For context in Ireland there are roughly 236,000 registered golf club members and around 400 clubs. So whilst the game is still growing, now is a great time to play some high calibre golf for a very reasonable price!
Without giving away too much before the television programme airs, we were fortunate enough to play some truly outstanding golf courses. Each one had its own personality. Some demanded strategic thinking from the tee. Others rewarded creativity around the greens. Several were beautifully routed through forests, while others showcased dramatic elevation changes and even more dramatic castles.
What impressed us most wasn't that there was one standout course. It was the consistency. Every venue felt like somewhere we'd happily return to. Every course offered memorable holes. Every day produced moments we'd still be talking about over dinner that evening.
Let's be honest. Golf holidays aren't getting any cheaper. Green fees across many of Europe's biggest destinations continue to climb, accommodation prices are rising, and the total cost of a week's golf can quickly become eye-watering.
Czechia offers something refreshingly different. You leave feeling like you've experienced premium golf without paying premium prices. That value extends far beyond the golf itself. Hotels, restaurants, drinks, transport and entertainment all combine to make the overall trip feel incredibly accessible. It's rare to come home from a golf holiday feeling you've received more than you paid for.
Some golf destinations offer fantastic courses but very little else.
That wasn't our experience during the week in Prague at all. One of the biggest highlights of filming Tee Time Czechia was experiencing everything that happens away from the fairways. Historic towns. Beautiful castles. Outstanding food and legendary Czech Pilsner.
Every evening became part of the experience rather than simply somewhere to recover before the next tee time.
Throughout the trip we were looked after incredibly well by everyone involved. From our hosts to the golf clubs, hotel staff, restaurant teams and local tourism partners, there was a genuine warmth that made the week unforgettable. Nothing ever felt forced. People wanted us to enjoy their country. They wanted us to discover places we'd never heard of. They were proud of what Czechia has become, and after spending time there, it's easy to understand why.
That passion is contagious, and felt very familiar. It was the type of experience you'd like to think golfers receive when they come here to Ireland, so it was nice to be on the other side of that interaction.
It's probably the biggest question we kept asking ourselves throughout the week. How can somewhere with golf courses of this quality still be relatively unknown to so many travelling golfers? Perhaps it's because the country has traditionally been associated more with city breaks than golf holidays. Perhaps neighbouring countries have simply dominated the conversation for longer. Or perhaps Czechia has quietly been happy letting people discover it organically.
Whatever the reason, we don't think that's going to last. As more golfers experience what's available here, word will spread, and deservedly so.
If you're organising an annual golf trip with friends, Czechia should move much higher up your shortlist.
The combination is difficult to beat:
Outstanding golf.
Excellent value.
Great nightlife.
Fantastic food and drink.
Beautiful scenery.
Easy travel.
It's everything you want from a modern golf destination without many of the compromises that come with more established locations.
One of our favourite parts of this trip was getting to capture it all for television. There's something incredibly rewarding about introducing golfers to places they may never have previously considered. That's exactly what this programme aims to do. Rather than simply reviewing golf courses, we wanted to tell the story of Czechia as a complete golfing destination.
By the time filming wrapped, we weren't just excited to share the series. We were already talking about when we could come back.

If you're looking for a European golf destination that offers championship-quality courses, exceptional hospitality, incredible value and experiences that stretch far beyond the 18th green, Czechia deserves to be on your radar. In fact, we'd go one step further. It deserves to be near the very top of your list.
Sometimes the best golf destinations aren't the ones everyone already knows. Sometimes they're the ones quietly waiting to be discovered.
